Bagh-e-Bahaar, which is part of the Vasant Vihar District Park, stretches for 18 hectares behind the Basant Lok market. This was laid out on the site of what had been a garden in the era of the Sultan Firuz Shah Tughlaq (14th century CE). Firuz Shah is believed to have laid out 1500 gardens in Delhi. The Bagh-e-Bahaar, recently rejuvenated, landscaped, and with its structures restored, is one of these. Neat paths cross the lawns here. There are lots of trees, plus benches, a children’s outdoor play area, and plenty of space to relax, picnic, and so on. If you’re keen on historical monuments, the most prominent one here is the large domed tomb known as Bada Lau ka Gumbad. This is generally kept locked, but if the guard/caretaker is there, he may open it if he thinks you look trustworthy! The other monuments, including a small mosque, two wells and a waterworks, are also kept locked. No entry fees are charged for the park or the monuments.

It is a hidden gem in the form of a beautiful garden in Delhi. Perhaps the last of the surviving gardens of Tughlaq era (late 14th century). A classic example of how a historical garden can be redeveloped. Remains of historical monuments, including 'Bara Lao ka Gumbad' have been beautifully restored. It is vast, lush green, with a wide variety of trees, nice pathways. Good for all age groups with ample play areas for children. Unfortunately not many people are aware of this beautiful garden. I just happened to see it today, when I visited nearby Priya Complex. It was a junkyard earlier. Hope and wish it becomes a popular place in near future.

The only park remain from 1500 parks by Firoz Shah Tuglak. Well maintained by DDA. Public Utilities available. Good to go for piknik.

The redevelopment of Vasant Udyaan, a DDA park in south Delhi’s Vasant Vihar, is the story of an audacious imagination at work. The green space is now well maintained and has offerings for people of all age groups. Swings for kids, Gym for youth. It's located at 5 minutes walking distance from Basant Lok Priya Cinema complex and Vasant Vihar Metro station. Entry is free.
